This talk address a Semantic MediaWiki use case to manage, visualize and analyze the data about the African cultural heritage located in the Canary Islands. These data are being compiled by the historian Germán Santana Pérez, head researcher of the project "Rescue and value of African heritage in the Canary Islands" (in Spanish, "Rescate y puesta en valor del patrimonio africano en Canarias"). The main aim of this project is to catalogue the African assets located in the Canary Islands due the wide contact across the past centuries between the African regions and this archipelago.

The head researcher proposed to create a website to publish this catalogue, but without the idea of structured data and Semantic MediaWiki. He contacted with Coruja Digital to make this website. After some meetings the decision was to make a website with data structured in wiki pages powered by MediaWiki and Semantic MediaWiki. This method ease the access and query of the assets data.

In this wiki there will be a page for each asset, properties to describe the assets, forms to ease the insertion of new assets as well to query data (query forms) and concepts to compile dynamically specific scopes of interest of the project. Besides it is going to be an opportunity to create a vocabulary based on the CIDOC-CRM ontology, although it is not one of the main objectives of this project.

This is a work-in-progress and the idea of the talk is to present how Semantic MediaWiki provide the way to enhance the project, both for internal and external use.
