The purpose of editing semantic data in Semantic MediaWiki is to simplify common tasks for users of the wiki. Most importantly, SMW includes various features for browsing, searching, and aggregating the wiki's content. These range from the simple Factbox at the bottom of articles to the powerful semantic search the results of which can also be embedded into wiki pages via inline queries.
Many reading features of the wiki should be obvious to users. For example, numerical values using units of measurement will display tooltips with unit conversion. Further features are described in separate sections:
- Help:Browsing interfaces: introduces all simple browsing interfaces of SMW, including the Factbox
- Help:Semantic search: covers advanced semantic queries, as are also used for inline queries
This documentation page applies to all SMW versions from 1.0 to the most current version.
