The English language documentation is canonical and most up to date.
The authority mode describes an operation state were specific configurations are used to restrict operational functionality to a group of users that retain permissions as data curator to guide the annotation and semantic gardening process.
Objective of the authority mode is not to control or provide an access control system (via ACL) of who can access or annotated specific values, the authority mode is meant to provide a management approach to control the creation and modifications of properties and property specifications.
For example, an uncontrolled creation of properties (i.e. various forms of "Keywords", "Has keyword", "Has keywords" are assumed to be semantic equivalent) and hereby the creation of value annotations may hinder the process of collecting suitable structured data. Semantic MediaWiki provides settings to install a workflow that can be more controlled with the help of:

- Synonyms also known as redirects as a means to construct an equivalence between properties
