Wikis have been widely used in biological laboratories and academical environments for a long while. Their simple setup and capabilities such as multiple users and edit tracking fitted very well in the context of loosely organised groups which had to face the demands of scientific reproducibility.

Since the appearance of Semantic MediaWiki and related extensions, a wider range of possibilities for managing data unrolled in these existing scenarios.

The presentation will introduce the usage of Semantic MediaWiki technologies in different user-oriented lab facilities and also their application as flexible knowledge-base platforms in biological annotation projects.
