Welcome to semantic-mediawiki.org[edit]

Hi Ganqqwerty,

thank you for registering here. You help is needed and will be appreciated. Somebody started to do a Russian version of the documentation but stopped doing it at some stage. Perhaps you might want to complete this work.

Cheers --kgh 19:08, 28 December 2010 (CET)

Of course, I'll try to do my best.
--Ganqqwerty 09:21, 30 December 2010 (CET)
That's cool. The language barrier is ofter pretty high and SMW is complex enough. It will be of help for Russian speaking people. Cheers --kgh 13:46, 30 December 2010 (CET)

Thank you![edit]

Thank you a lot for the programming examples, they help me (an amateur programmer) a lot! I'd love to see more of the same kind, or any other documentation on the topic, and might even try writing a tutorial myself in the future. Rotsee 22:31, 4 August 2011 (CEST)

Heiya Ganqqwerty,

the docinfo system was introduced by Dick6809 to help translators keep track of changes to pages. On translated pages the entries for author and support may be adjusted to the needs of the Russian community here. The revision id is inserted manually and corresponds to the version of the master page you translated. The documentation to this system is on this page. Here you can see how I use the system for German translations.

Category:Result formats[edit]

Heiya Ganqqwerty, the Russian text on this page was provided by Google translator. You ought to have a look at it an amend it. Thank you and cheers --kgh 01:09, 24 August 2011 (CEST)

that looks really great! Is it an extension that makes those javascript tabs? --Katkov Yury 12:06, 25 August 2011 (CEST)
Thank you for amending the translation and liking the change. :) Yes, these tabs are provided by Header Tabs which Markus was so kind to install on this wiki. Since the standard style of the extension is not very nice I have done some changes and additionally adapted it for this wiki. See Common.css in the section Header Tabs for the changes I applied. Cheers --kgh 14:46, 25 August 2011 (CEST)

Template:Docu and Template:Docinfo[edit]

Hi Katkov Yury, I would like to make you aware of the fact that the messages used in these templates are translatable. In case you provide the three translations into Russian. I will gladly add them for you. Cheers --kgh 23:51, 12 September 2011 (CEST)

sure thing, it doesn't seems to be a hard task! --Katkov Yury 11:08, 13 September 2011 (CEST)
No, you just need to translate the following three messages:
 • This documentation page applies to all SMW versions from {minversion} to the most current version.
 • Other versions:
 • Other languages:
Cheers --kgh 19:30, 13 September 2011 (CEST)
Wow, you really know template kung fu! I've added a Russian translation. --Katkov Yury 09:40, 14 September 2011 (CEST)
:) Actually it is some kind of Japanese Voodoo introduced by Dick6809. I have no idea how I works but it does and I am only the priest. :) This is far beyond my limit of comprehension. Thanks for the translation. Cheers --kgh 12:14, 14 September 2011 (CEST)

Stuck in template voodoo[edit]

Hi Yury, Dick6809 was not very active lately. I think that we will have to go through the pages which are not out of date (no version number attached to the title) manually to fix this. Cheers --kgh 13:00, 26 September 2011 (CEST)

My fault but I'll fix everything in a moment, wait just a 15 minutes. --Yury Katkov 13:05, 26 September 2011 (CEST)
This was not forseeable. Most probably you will run your bot to add status effective to the template. This is only true for the pages with no version number attached to the title. All others would get status obsolete. Apart from that I already started fixing the most prominent pages. These may be left out too. Cheers --kgh 13:17, 26 September 2011 (CEST)
Now all the pages that used docu template are using docinfo with status=effective - just not no annoy people with this DRAFT message. Now I'll assign the obsolete status to all pages with version numer in their titles. --Yury Katkov 13:33, 26 September 2011 (CEST)
Cool. Your pet is growing up fast. :) --kgh 13:35, 26 September 2011 (CEST)

User:Yury Katkov/docinfo[edit]

Hi Yury, as a service to you I set up the docinfo work page for you. Cheers --kgh 18:33, 26 September 2011 (CEST)

Looks great, thanks! What I still don't understand is how do we have to interpret Editor, Supporter and Author properties. What's the difference between the three? --Yury Katkov 18:49, 26 September 2011 (CEST)
I am interpreting and using this as follows: author is the one who initially wrote the page, supporter is the one who feels responsible to keep it up to date and the editor is just the one who made the most recent edit. Cheers --kgh 23:20, 26 September 2011 (CEST)
And what about translations? Here is a page initially writter by Markus supported by Jeroen. Suppose that I have traslated it and keep its Russian version up to date. Am I an author and supporter of the Russian version? --Yury Katkov 09:13, 27 September 2011 (CEST)
That is what I have done with the German pages. Since we are always refering to the master page in the template, I believe we are compliant with CC-BY. Cheers --kgh 09:28, 27 September 2011 (CEST)

docinfo on obsolete pages[edit]

Hi Yury, actually the docinfo template it put at the top of obsolete pages intentionally. This is to quickly make a user aware that he is most probably on the wrong page. Cheers --kgh 15:58, 1 October 2011 (CEST)

That makes sense for obsolete pages. But it seems wrong when effective pages has the language panel on a top, like here. I'm not yet sure that we can make the docinfo/obsolete message always appears on a top of the wikipage no matter where the docinfo template has been put. I'll try to play with that in a playground. If we can do it in MediaWiki it's probably better to unify docinfo's place in wiki-articles. --Yury Katkov 17:28, 1 October 2011 (CEST)
On this page the property value was just not changed form effective to obsolete. Since one has to change this one may also move the docinfo template from the bottom to the top of the page. I do not think it is possible to do that without substatial voodoo if it is possible at all. Cheers --kgh 15:04, 2 October 2011 (CEST)

Wiki of the Month[edit]

Hi Yury, I just introduced a system that automatically inserts your translation into main page. Additionally the translations of older WotMs do not get lost in version history which was a "shame" so for. All you have to do in the future is to use this form to create the Russian translation. The previous wikis are displayed in a nicer and more appealing way on this page (please check the translations of the column titles). Perhaps it might be nice to also have Вики месяца to be like Wiki of the Month. Cheers --kgh 17:14, 9 October 2011 (CEST)

It looks very sexy! But shame on me, there's only one Russian translation there! --Yury Katkov 14:37, 11 October 2011 (CEST)
It looks as sexy as a website may be ;) I am glad you like it. Next weekend I will try to merge this with the main template "SMW site". You just started the Russion main page. Thus there are only a few translations availabe. It would be very nice if you keep up with WotM in the future if you have the time to do it. Cheers --kgh 19:43, 11 October 2011 (CEST)
Here is my first experience with a template Template:WotMs: Whealton_Family_Genealogy_(ru). I see some problems with the Description field and I don't see the statistics field as it's done in SMW_site template. Speaking of Template:SMW site, there is no translation boxes available for it. What template should I use now for wikis of the months, how can I help with improving them? Yury Katkov 13:01, 13 November 2011 (CET)
You misunderstood the purpose of the form and template I created. It was solely made for the inclusion of the short text presented on main page and on Wiki of the Month. Thus it has a reduced functionality and "nothing" to do with SMW_site. However I am already planning on merging WotMs and SMW_site. As a matter of fact I wanted to have this done already. :( Cheers --kgh 21:56, 13 November 2011 (CET)
I tried to split your translation into the intended articles. However, I am absolutely sure that the description on main page is some kind of mess now. :( Cheers --kgh 22:21, 13 November 2011 (CET)
Ooops :). I fixed my mistake and understood the purpose of the form. It's great because my translation task is easier now - I realize that I need to translate only a tiny description for each wiki of the month. If you plan to translate the entire description of those wikis please let me know. 22:58, 13 November 2011 (CET)
No problem at all. I was surprised that you translated all of it. Most probably I will never do a translation of the complete descriptions available. Still, never say never. :) What about Wiki of the Month in Russian? Cheers --kgh 23:13, 13 November 2011 (CET) PS The month may be in Russion since the property is only of type string. I will automatically be included on main page, too. No need to do in in English. Cheers --kgh 23:16, 13 November 2011 (CET)
Almost done with my Вики_месяца --Yury Katkov 23:38, 13 November 2011 (CET)
Cool and thank you! I just changed the query. Sorting by a non-existing property breaks it. Good to know. Cheers --kgh 10:41, 14 November 2011 (CET)

Yury for admin[edit]

Heiya Yury, since you are a valuable user on this wiki I think it would be fair to provide you with the user rights of an admin. Congratulations and keep up the good work on this wiki. :) See you in November after your semantic conference. Cheers --kgh 23:32, 31 October 2011 (CET)

Wow, it's my pleasure to be promouted like this! I promise not to use the given power for evil! I'm preparing for Semantic Web basics school now and for conference too — so my contribution will take place indeed after 10th of November. Thanks again, hopefully I'll get some guys interested in Semantic Web, Semantic Wikis and SMW in particular. --Yury Katkov 23:41, 31 October 2011 (CET)
:) Oops, I did not see your answer until today. I wish that you succeed to get some people interested in it. I think this piece of software deserves more recognition. Cheers --kgh 21:47, 13 November 2011 (CET)

Renaming you[edit]

Heiya, Markus updated this wiki today and additionally installed the Renameuser extesion. Now it is possible to change your user name. Should it be "Katkov Yury" as on mediawikiwiki or "Yury Katkov"? I hope to have you back on this wiki soon. Cheers --kgh 00:08, 13 February 2012 (CET)

Hi! Let it be Yury Katkov. Yury Katkov 14:40, 19 June 2012 (CEST)

Open issues[edit]

Heiya Yury, today a lot of open issues were fixed with the update of the wiki. I have answered to all of them on my talk page. Just have a look there. Cheers --kgh 02:18, 13 February 2012 (CET)

Help with translation[edit]

Hello, Yuri, i can help with translation into russian. Привет, Юрий, я могу помочь с переводом, пока время есть. -- Иван Shibormot 11:26, 4 May 2012 (CEST)

Привет, Иван! Это прекрасно! У нас есть ряд маленьких и больших задачек на любой вкус:
 • Маленькие описания в Вики месяца. Нужно переводить только аннотации статей про вики месяца. Это делается с помощью вот этой формочки: Form:WotMs

Yury Katkov 12:44, 4 May 2012 (CEST)

Хорошо :) с семантической вики я только начал знакомство, думаю приспособить ее к нашим процессам в компании, поэтому с переводом
настроек я пока пас. А в остальном думаю справлюсь. Незнакомое трогать не буду а в чем уверен переведу Shibormot 13:33, 4 May 2012 (CEST)
Обращайся, если нужно будет помочь по технической части. В личном порядке с радостью помогу решить какие-то небольшие вопросы, ну и всегда можно пообщаться о партнерстве твоей компании с WikiVote! Yury Katkov 12:34, 10 May 2012 (CEST)

since the rectified version of SMW has not been deployed to this wiki yet. Cheers

It is great to see so many new pages on datatypes. :) As soon as all the translations are finished you could add the docinfo template and set up the query on the category page. I have added the docinfo to the Russian boolean as an example. Cheers

displaying a web site screenshot thumbnail

Dear Yuri, As we discussed during the SMWCOn Fall 2012, I achieved to display a web site screenshot thumbnail on my wiki.

I did it with the help of the extension HTML_Tags and a website screenshot provider.

You can see an exemple here

Hi Nicolas! Very cool! What library have you used to get screenshots? Do you plan to release it? I found these:

There is also some amount of web services like http://grabz.it

displaying thumbshots on a page is a wish on my list too. I once posted about this on the Widgets extension's talk page since I thought that this extension would be a born host for such functionality. The HTML Tags extension seems to offer a workaround for this though it appears a bit inflexible at the moment. Probably a template would do good here.

Hi Yuri as promised, I keep you in touch,

I have find a nice thumbshots provider www.robothumb.com.

Which help to display easily thumshots and store them into SMW values.

You can see example here

Modeling Semantic Rule

Hello Yuri,

As I think Semantic Rule on wikis could be useful, I have created a page Rule Modeling, inorder to list tips about this topic, contuning your post on http://old.nabble.com

Nicolas NALLET (Sémantiki)

20:28, 7 December 2012

Very nice, I will try to contribute! The problem with SMW-based rules is that the rules are applying when the parser is called. I think that I should have a look on Ontoprise's solutions for rules in wiki. Have you seen their extensions for rules?

20:36, 7 December 2012

Yes, there is the extension Rule Knowledge released on 2009 but I never tried it.

For the problem with SMW-based rules is that the rules are applying when the parser is called. Maybe it could exist a solution to hard write new categories or values inferenced thanks to the same mechanism as the input type "googlemaps"in Semantic Forms (that write the geaographic coordinates when we enter the complete adresse after pushing a button).

Do you see what I Mean ?

See U

Nicolas NALLET (Sémantiki)

13:14, 10 December 2012

Let's learn what Rule Knowledge can do. If their functionality plus the one we're describing in Rule Modeling page is not enough, we will formulate requirements for the new extension.

I thought that the bot-based extension can be good alternative to the parser functions since the bot do not depend on parser.

By the way can you show me any examples of the rules you want to model with MW/SMW?

16:21, 10 December 2012

Don't really understand your analogy about the googlemap input format. :( Can you clarify?

17:34, 10 December 2012

Hi, Yes I will be clearer : For The input type "googlemaps"in Semantic Forms

Before My template looked like this :

|geographic coordinates=

The consequence was points on the map thanks to geographic coordinates were not always dispalyed because the parser was not always called, do you confirm ?

Thanks to the input type "google maps", the template looks like this :

|geographic coordinates=48° 52' 56" N, 2° 18' 28" E

As you can see, the input type "google maps" write like manually the geographic coordinates int the field and points are always displayed.

I answer your others question at the rule modeling talk page.
