Welcome to semantic-mediawiki.org
Hi Linforest,
thank you for registering here and thank you very much for creating a Chinese version of the main page. I just made you Contributor. Thus you are able to edit the Help namespace too. Perhaps you would like to translate the documantation, too. You are welcome to do so and your help is needed and will be appreciated. In case of questions, just drop me a note on my talk page. Cheers

Wiki of the Month
Hi Linforest, in order to include the teasers for the WotM in main page you just have to create the translation using this form. In case you would like to have the month and year appear in Chinese on the main page too, you would have to switch to the inclusion mechanism used on e.g. the German main mage. It is slightly different to the English one but offers more translation capapility. Cheers --kgh 15:41, 27 January 2012 (CET)
docinfo system
Hi Linforest, the docinfo template facilitates quite a complex system of tracking if translated version of a page are up to date and in line with the current English language page. Inserting this template not only allows cross linking between the different languages, it also allows for querying what pages are already available and what status they have. See here for the queries I do for the German translations. I see you have already done this on this page. For the mechanism to work you would have to insert| master rev = 12644instead of
| master rev = REVISIONID 12644 is the current revision number of the English page. In case you set REVISIONID on the Chinese page it would not work. Cheers --kgh 15:54, 27 January 2012 (CET)
- Many Thanks! I still need more reading and understanding of SMW and Mediawiki --Linforest 16:04, 27 January 2012 (CET)
Up and running again :)
Hi Linforest, everything is working again. I just saw that you translated the page for the quick reference guide. Please wait a bit before translating the little descriptions of the extensions. I want to create a form for doing this, to make it a bit easier and more semantic. Cheers --kgh 10:53, 6 February 2012 (CET)
- That would be nice! Many thanks.--Linforest 11:39, 6 February 2012 (CET)
- This is just to inform you that the required form and template will be available tomorrow evening CET. Stay tuned. Cheers --kgh 01:29, 10 February 2012 (CET)
- Thank you very much, kgh!--Linforest 07:40, 10 February 2012 (CET)
- Heiya Linforest, I have implemeted this now. However it is not perfect which I am afraid is not changeble. You may use this form to create a page for an extension other than English, but it will not be possible to edit the thus created page with this form. After you have done so you will have to change in a second step the template used from Template:Extension to Template:Extension (zh-hans) on the newly created page, replaceing "{{Extension" by "{{Extension (zh-hans)" in the first line. This is done with a normal edit and not with a edit with form. All further changes to the page will have to be done with a normal edit too. Creating foreign language versions of the forms is not possible because you can set only one standard form to a category. I would like to avoid foreign language categories at this stage. Please have a look, if the form Template:Extension (zh-hans) is ok. You will have to translate the property values of Property:Has area of usage, Property:Has release status and Property:Has development status and add them as I have done for the German version. I guess this approach is acceptabel, since the hardest part is to insert the template together with the template values. All other changes should be minor and easy to do without the form. If unsure how to proceed, just imitate that I have done on the German versions. Cheers --kgh 01:05, 11 February 2012 (CET) PS I have used Google translator to create the template, so do not be angry with me. :)
- I need to undertand the above form and template. Thanks a lot for your active and useful help :) I also use Google translator and MS translator as tools when translating. That's alright! --Linforest 05:58, 11 February 2012 (CET)
- Take your time. Yes, Google Translator is cool. You are easily able to grasp what is meant. However, most of it still needs amendments to be correct. Cheers --kgh 15:02, 11 February 2012 (CET)
- Hi Linforest, creating a second form as you did now will not work since you can have only one standard form per category. We can only use the existing English language form to create a page and then have to additionally swap the template as described above. After that we can only change a non-English page by doing a regular edit without a form. Since it is not a high traffic form, I believe that this is acceptable. Cheers --kgh 11:43, 12 February 2012 (CET)
- Roger that! Thanks, kgh! Cheers. --Linforest 12:02, 12 February 2012 (CET)

Hi Linforest, I have changed the appearance of Template:Extension (zh-hans). May you please check if everything is still as is should be. Thank you and cheers --kgh 19:11, 26 February 2012 (CET)
- That's good! Thank you so much, kgh! Cheers. --Linforest 00:18, 27 February 2012 (CET)
Category:SMW extensions
Heiya Linforest, I have added a tab for zh-hans in this category. Now "Within this wiki, extensions describe extensions to MediaWiki that either require Semantic MediaWiki (SMW) itself to run or are required by it to run." has to be translated and added as a little explanation of what is to be seen. Cheers --kgh 00:21, 16 February 2012 (CET)
- The description was translated. Cheers! --Linforest 04:57, 16 February 2012 (CET)
- Great. Thank you very much for your help. Cheers --kgh 12:55, 16 February 2012 (CET)
Amazing work
Heiya Linforest, I would like to thank you for the work you have done so far on this wiki. You have made an amazing progress in documenting SMW in Chinese. That's great and I really appreciate it. I guess your progress in understanding SMW is evolving equally fast. :) Cheers --kgh 01:12, 9 March 2012 (CET)
- Heiya Kghbln, It's really my pleasure! I've translated all those pages directly showed in the two manuals' TOCs. Many thanks for your just-in-time helps! I would improve these pages in Chinese gradually. I'm also looking for further tasks, e.g., those pages for Datatypes (BTW, I don't know how to name the Chinese/zh-hans pages for Datatypes.) or other pages with higher priorities. Any suggestions, advices or comments are welcome. :) Cheers --Linforest 05:58, 9 March 2012 (CET)
- Great, actually I am doing the very same as you do. I gradually improve the translations of the original German pages as I progress in understanding SMW. Yes the datatypes, special properties and result formats need to be translated too. You can start with datatypes and result formats. I would not do the special properties since the documentation is not very good right now. When it comes to naming the datatypes, there are already some translations of the names available into zh-hans (SMW_LanguageZh_cn.php). The master page for this is SMW_LanguageEn.php. Perhaps there are some Chinese translations for datatype available on the net too, since this is a semantic thing. Some translations are still missing. It would be cool if you will do this, e.g. for telephone number or record. The pages for datatypes are pretty straight forward. Translations for this file cannot be done via translatewiki.net so you will have to create a bug report on bugzilla. After you have done this, the documentation pages for new releases are important too. There is still some work to do. Cheers --kgh 15:09, 9 March 2012 (CET)
- Thanks for your valuable suggestions! Cheers --Linforest 15:13, 9 March 2012 (CET)
- Heiya Linforest, I just completed the transfer of help pages for special properties from the property namespace to the help namespace. Whilst doing this I had a look through these pages and updated them. It is now save to translate them. Cheers --kgh 00:15, 26 March 2012 (CEST)
- Heiya kgh, I'll do it. BTW: I guess you mean "safe" by "save", right? Thanks :)--Linforest 01:19, 26 March 2012 (CEST)
- Yeah, all these tiny typos. :( --kgh 11:00, 26 March 2012 (CEST)
- That's alright, kgh. I was afraid that the verb might have any other meaning I didn't understand :) Cheers. --Linforest 14:13, 26 March 2012 (CEST)
Chinese Tabs
Heiya Linforest, perhaps you would like to add Chinese tabs to these categories: Category:Datatypes, Category:Result_formats. Cheers --kgh 01:36, 11 March 2012 (CET)
- Heiya kgh! No problem. I did 'em as you said. Cheers --Linforest 01:52, 11 March 2012 (CET)
Your feedback
Heiya Linforest, thank you for providing your feedback on the site. Good to have you as a first mover. Cheers --kgh 09:06, 20 March 2012 (CET)
- Heiya kgh, it's my pleasure! Cheers --Linforest 12:01, 20 March 2012 (CET)
Chinese language main page
Heiya Linforest, I have updated the page to show the Chinese news items. What I did not do is the labels for the RSS-Feed ... Cheers --kgh 19:43, 30 March 2012 (CEST)
- Heiya Kgh, many thanks for your help :) Cheers --Linforest 01:09, 31 March 2012 (CEST)
Naming of help pages regarding special properties
Heiya Linforest, in contrast to the pages for exentsions it is very well possible to use the Chinese version of the page as the name of the page holding the content. I think this would even be the preferred way. It is a different pair of shoes for pages on extensions since they have a fixed English name which should not be translated and which is the name of choice for all languages. Cheers --kgh 01:13, 1 April 2012 (CEST)
- Heiya Kgh, I agree with you. Naming of help pages is really a little bit thorny for me and at times I didn't know how to choose the preferred names for various "special" pages (not special pages :) ). Please feel free to correct my naming if anything improper. Thanks a lot for your reminding. Cheers --Linforest 01:28, 1 April 2012 (CEST)
