Welcome to semantic-mediawiki.org
Hi Dick6809,
thank you for registering here. You help is needed and will be appreciated. It would be very helpful to have a documentation in Japanese. Perhaps you might want to do this. Bevor starting you will have to write an e-mail to Markus Krötzsch to get the necessary contributor permission.
Cheers --kgh 11:11, 8 March 2011 (CET)
PS I just added support for the Japanese flag to show up on the respective documentation pages.
- Dear Kghbln,
Thank you very much for your help to make me a contributer, and to welcome Japanese language into SMW site. I suppose a prerequisite to start SMW documents translation into other language is; the localised Project:Documentation guidelines. And it has been done at http://dev.open-support.info/smw/index.php?title=Project:Documentation_guidelines_(ja) .
Thanks again --K. Kawaguchi 12:31, 8 March 2011 (CET)
Hi K. Kawaguchi, I am afraid that I have to admit that I was not aware of this documentation until I read your post. Shame on me. I started to do the German documentation just by imitating the English original. However, you seem to be set up perfectly. Why not adding this page into this wiki an move on from there. Cheers --kgh 21:01, 8 March 2011 (CET) PS It is a good idea to prepare a translated page on a different wiki. I am doing the same. :)
- Hi kgh, Yes of course and that is the reason why I prepared the personal dev site. I follow your and other administrator's instruction how and when I will upload my tranlations, for example which is better to upload one by one, or together at once after completion to translate a block of documents, with/without your ispections. I will report the progress of my tranlations as below.
- BTW honestly it is no need to uplaod or link to the translated documentation guideline until when another other Japanese contributers will come, but it is required for me myself. --K. Kawaguchi 05:10, 9 March 2011 (CET)
Gee! It's awesome the way you are doing it. The right time to insert the pages here will most probably be when you for yourself discover that others will be able to grasp what SMW is all about by reading the translations you already completed. Cheers --kgh 10:38, 9 March 2011 (CET) PS The guideline may perhaps trigger others to get involved. So in case they find it ...
- The table is updated, and thank you for your so good regarding. It is really useful for myself too, because I can proceed all translation work on this site at one-stop page here. It shouldn't be a handtyped table but a somehow auto-generatad semantic browsing, I suppose. It is easy to customise Template:Docu and Template:Language for this function with backward compatibility by adding some parameters and semantic propertiyes about maintainers involved in, and the revision id of the master page as below, etc. I may do it as my next contribution, but now I have to translate pages into Japanese first...
- How about set the target date for initial rollout of these translations at the same time or appropriately before the regular mainpage update in April? Minimum pages are better at first. Please consider this plan, regards --K. Kawaguchi 03:40, 11 March 2011 (CET)
- Hi K. Kawaguchi, I am glad you are well. I wish for all the best. The date of the initial roll-out may be set at you convenience. Setting close targets has always a positive effect on progress made. :) A minimum but comprehensive set of pages is not a bad idea. This may also attract other people to join in translating. Hmmm ..., you made an interesting suggesting concerning the display of the page status and progress of translation. I fear that this may get too complex for a community driven website with a small community. However, it is not up to me alone to decide about this. The best way would be to address this at a community meeting (SMWCon Spring 2011). I will write Markus an e-mail to make him aware of this suggestion. Cheers --kgh 11:04, 16 March 2011 (CET)
- Dear kghbln, thank you very much for your kindness. I live in Tokyo, in one piece fortunately. But the economic activities at here in IT sector are almost stopped now, so I have a time to work for SMW :-) BTW, the table below is a makeshift. It is possible to create a semantic template which can use as a simple domumentation management system for small communites. I'll prepare a prototype in my SMW dev site by using the table below as a sample case, in several days, if possible. Regards --K. Kawaguchi 13:53, 16 March 2011 (CET)
- Hi K. Kawaguchi, I have to admit that it would have been best not have a situation like this. To have a prototype is even better since it gives everyone the chance to grasp the full extent of a proposal. I very much appreciate you enthusiasm. Take care! Cheers --kgh 13:11, 17 March 2011 (CET)
- Hi kghbln, It seems that the alpha verions of documentation management structure are working well in my test site. I named this template Template:Docinfo temporary. The usage of this template is very similar to the 'Docu' and 'Language.' Please go to the About docinfo subsection for further discussion. Another and unexpected derivative result of docinfo is 'vocabulary' assistance. Please go to the About vocabulary subsection about this too. Would you please let me know the monthly update schedule? A lot of pages are translated alerady, but I suppose that it's better to review the total consistency between pages. How about 'group 1' in the table below as initial uploadings? Your comment is appreciated.--K. Kawaguchi 11:10, 31 March 2011 (CEST)
- I have finished the translation of main page april version at http://dev.open-support.info/smw/index.php?title=Semantic_MediaWiki_(ja) . How about to upload it only, and keep other files sufixed (ja) as redirections to original English pages? Best regards. --K. Kawaguchi 05:54, 1 April 2011 (CEST)
- Hi K. Kawaguchi, I answered to your e-mail. Cheers --kgh 10:25, 1 April 2011 (CEST)
- I'm very glad to report you about Template:Docinfo is ready to validate on semantic-mediawiki.org, after testing on my private dev site. Also I uploaded Template:Documentation meta-template and its derivatives, and Template:Message and Template:LangSwitch for plurilingual support.
- Thank you Kgh very much for your help of checking German messages in Template:Message. In order to enable full features of Template:Message and Template:LangSwitch, there is one more step to register languages into semantic-mediawiki.org. Would you please create these pages in MediaWiki: namespace? Or please let me know at where page I should request it.
Pagename Contents ---------------------- -------- MediaWiki:Lang en MediaWiki:Lang/de de MediaWiki:Lang/fr fr MediaWiki:Lang/ja ja MediaWiki:Lang/zh-hans zh-hans MediaWiki:Lang/simple simple
- I suppose the list above is enough for a moment, but you may add more languages as your suggestions.
- You can see the details of Template:Docinfo in its embedded documentation. Please see also Template:Docinfo/query/example2 to check status of documentation. You can see the sample of documentation tracking at my user page User:Dick6809.
- After checking consistency of Template:Docinfo and other templates, I'll upload some almost completed translated documents into Japanese one by one with draft status. --K. Kawaguchi 07:53, 8 April 2011 (CEST)
Progress of translations
Last update: --K. Kawaguchi 13:03, 31 March 2011 (CEST)
Note
- It is usefull to declare a semantic propery for
REVISIONIDin Template:Docu and Template:Language, then we can track the obsolescence of any translations automatically like this. Also we can warn it to audience automatically too if you wish, like this.
- I have no idea about which is better to use multilingual style, multiple pages with suffix (xx) as usual, or pulurilingual style, one single page with
for the documents in namespace Category:, Type:, etc. Your suggestion is appreciated.
About docinfo
Docinfo is a simple (I hope so :-)) template with it's sub-templates to provide simple documentation management feature to SMW. It has three object:
- To add some attributes into each document.
- According to these attributes, users will have appropreate visual cautions on each page, e.g. This is a draft pge, this page is out of date in comparison with master version, etc.
- Annotate these attributes for later summarizations.
You can see the general information about docinfo in it's documentation, at http://dev.open-support.info/smw/index.php?title=Template:Docinfo . There is a summarization sample like a table above at http://dev.open-support.info/smw/index.php?title=Template:Docinfo/example .
docinfo and Docu / Language
Updates of Docu and Language are required to use Docinfo, because current Docu and Language assume that ALL documents in SMW site are official (effective) ones. We have to add filters to them to remove non-effective pages from translation page list.
I'm afrade that this problem can normalize to whole SMW. There is a solution to prepare a custom namespace (e.g. Draft:) where annotations are disabled for draft (unofficial) documents, but can not manage them. It there any mathods to determine scopes of annotations?
My documents in this site by docinfo

All documents in which Dick6809 involved:
Demo pages by User1

All documents in which User1 involved: </span></td> </tr> </table>
About vocabulary
Vocabulary is a mutilingual interpretation assistance with SMW, an expansion of MW's MediaWiki: namespace.
Normally in MW, we use MediaWiki: namesapace to provide multilingual support. Unfortunately not only semantic annotations in MediaWiki: inhibits MW's multilingual function. So I made Vocabulary: namespace which is an alternative of MediaWiki but semantic annotations ara available. The result was a semantic Wiktionary, in deed.
Please visit http://dev.open-support.info/smw/index.php?title=Vocabulary:Common in my test site and explore it, for example a article [1]
To consult dictionaries, use Template:Vocabulary http://dev.open-support.info/smw/index.php?title=Template:Vocabulary . This template access to dictionaly with traditional MW method without semantic annotation, so it performs quickly and free from SMW database inconsistency.
On the other hand, articles are fully managed with SMW and Semantic Forms, so it is easy to use.
I suppose it has a big potential. Please register your test account in my test site http://dev.open-support.info/smw/ and let me know your account name, then I'll give you an edit access right to test semantic forms of vocabulary namespace. Best regards, --K. Kawaguchi 12:52, 31 March 2011 (CEST)
Docinfo
Hi Kazuhiro, hopefully you are well. I just want to leave you a note that I finally started using the docinfo system you introduced to this wiki (see here. Page by page I will continue to expand the system. I am happy to use it. Cheers --kgh 21:31, 27 April 2011 (CEST)
- Hi kgh, I tested docinfo and its subsidary semantic temploates with semantic form in my new site in this a couple of weeks. See http://open-support.sakura.ne.jp/wiki/index.php?title=Book:OTRS_3.0_-_Admin_Manual and click veiw form tab. This form and the semantic template "Book" use updated docinfo in behind. It still has some problem but almost run. Talk about docinfo more in SMWCon. Cheers, --K. Kawaguchi 22:31, 27 April 2011 (CEST)
- It is getting better by the day. That is very impressive to me. :) I wish that all problems will be eradicated. Have a good SMWCon. Cheers --kgh 22:51, 27 April 2011 (CEST)
Semantic_MediaWiki_-_cover_page_(ja)
Hi K. Kawaguchi, I hope you are well and your translation efforts progress. The cover page needs to be updated ("Wiki of the month"). It would be nice if you could do this. Thank you and cheers --kgh 13:26, 26 May 2011 (CEST)
- Hi K. Kawaguchi, I hope that you are well and that everything is ok. Cheers --kgh 23:10, 15 June 2011 (CEST)
docinfo is putting the DRAFT message by default
Hello Kazuhiro!
I'm migrating from the old Template:docu to your magnificent Template:docinfo and I have a question. When we put the text like that:

the message from Template:docinfo/draft appears. Why is that and could you fix it? --Yury Katkov 12:33, 26 September 2011 (CEST)
- We've already worked this out. You have a great template, thanks for this effort! --Yury Katkov 15:01, 26 September 2011 (CEST)
